FAQs

Do you have insurance?
Yes – I have third party liability insurance with Protectivity Insurance.

How long does a groom take?
This will depend on the breed of dog and the condition of their coat.  On average, to bath, brush out and style your dog will take me approximately 2 hours. I will be able to give you a more accurate time when you arrive.

Are your appointment times fixed?
Yes, so I can manage the number of dogs passing through.  If you arrive 15 mins past your appointment time, it may be necessary to reschedule.

Do I have to personally drop off my dog?
No, but on your first visit, I will ask you (or the responsible person) to sign a Declaration / Disclaimer form.  This confirms any known health / behaviour issues have been shared, I will groom your dog based on the instructions given, necessary measures can be taken to remove matted areas of coat, I'm able to take photographs and use for marketing purposes and a charge for no-show or cancellation of less than 24 hours notice may be incurred.

Should I bath my dog before the appointment?
No, I have all the facilities and it is the shortest part of the groom.  The drying process also helps with the brushing out.

Will you groom my dog without a bath?
No, I’m afraid not.  To receive the highest quality groom, I’ll bathe your dog.  It is also very damaging to my equipment to use on a dirty coat.

Do I need to provide you with anything to groom my dog?
I provide all the shampoo and grooming equipment but if you have a prescribed, medicated shampoo, please bring it with you.  If you know your dog has sensitive skin, please advise.  I have a soothing shampoo I can use in such instances.

Can I stay and watch the groom?
I would recommend you don’t.  I find it is easier for them to relax if I can hold your dog’s full attention, without distractions.

Will you use a muzzle on my dog?
Unfortunately, there are occasions when a dog’s behaviour poses a risk of injury to myself or other dogs.  In order to complete the groom, it may be necessary.  Be assured they are humane and the dog is still able to open its jaw.

Are the dogs restrained at all?
Yes, for their own safety and to prevent them from moving excessively whilst on the grooming table.  I use a collar and occasionally a belly strap.

Can you still groom my dog if it has fleas?
If you are aware in advance of the appointment, then I’m afraid not.  You should seek advice regarding treatment, of both the dog and your house.  If I notice fleas on arrival, I will continue with the groom and use a flea treatment shampoo.  However, as I will have to treat the premises after, there will be an additional charge of £8.

Will you shave my double-coated dog?
No, unless the coat is badly neglected and matted.  If your dog’s coat is matt-free, the air flows close to the skin and cools them down.  The coat also protects their skin from the sun.

I hear horror stories of dogs being shaved incredibly short, will you assure me my grooming requirements will be followed?
will do my upmost to follow your requirements.  However, if the coat has excessive matting, the only way to remove them is to use a short clipping blade.  This should be known at the initial consultation.  If during the groom, a short clip is necessary, I will call to confirm you are happy with this approach.

Will you groom my bitch who is in season / pregnant / lactating?
No.  If your pet is in season, they will be at risk of an infection during the bathing process.  She would also be a distraction to any entire male dogs I have waiting.  If your bitch is in whelp, I would not wish to risk the puppies.  I will happily groom your bitch once the puppies have weaned .

What is the minimum age you would undertake a puppy groom?
In order to introduce your puppy to the grooming process, I would recommend from 14 - 16-weeks and after their 2nd jab.  This may just be a wash, dry and brush out.  The aim is to build their confidence and make it an enjoyable experience.

Should l feed my dog before their appointment?
Please allow a minimum of 2 hours between your dog eating and their groom.  It reduces the risk of anxiety should they require the toilet but also from bloat.

What payments do you accept?
I accept cash and card payments, payable on collection.

Do you offer a discount for multiple dogs from the same family?
Unfortunately not.  To consult, health check and groom each dog takes the same amount of time whether brought in together or separately.

I have seen a complete groom offered cheaper, will you reduce your prices?
I’m afraid not.  My prices reflect the quality and pride I take in my work.  They also allow me to use the best quality equipment and products.
